We want to thank all of our amazing supporters for sharing your notes, ideas, and inspirations with us! In the AppStore’s race to 50 billion downloads, Apple listed the top 25 most downloaded paid iPad apps of all time and Notability ranked 17th! This is an incredible honor for us and one we share with all of our awesome users. Without you creating memorable notes, sketching new designs, drafting business plans, and studying those many long hours for finals, we would not be where we are today.

As many of you are curious about what’s in store for Notability, here’s a quick update about the next release: simply put, it will transform how you work! Right now, we’re heading into the final stages of testing. Many long nights and weekends have passed in the blink of an eye; combined with an overflowing recycle bin and a coffee grinder that is somehow still holding strong, we believe this release will be our best ever. We’ll be sharing more details about the amazing additions to Notability in the upcoming weeks so stay tuned.

P.S. We couldn’t resist using one of our cool new features to thank all of you! ;-)

Introducing Notability 4.4

October 12th, 2012

We’ve been working very hard for several months, and today, I’m excited to share Notability 4.4 with you. This update includes a multitude of time-saving features that will increase productivity and expand the many uses of Notability. Also wrapped into this release are some awesome technical improvements that greatly increase performance.

First, we’ve made it easier to switch handwriting tools while writing in the zoom view and revamped the keyboard toolbar to give you quicker assess to fonts, colors, styling, and font favorites. The repositioning of handwriting and typing tools is specifically designed for your workflow. These tools have received special attention to maximize their usefulness and appeal. Combined with a dedicated read only mode, that is ideal of reviewing notes, Notability 4.4 will give you an amazing productivity boost.

Several other user suggestions have also been added, as people continue to inspire us with how they use Notability. These additions will be a big boost for power users who are constantly handling large notes and PDFs. Not only can you bookmark pages, but you can also filter the entire note by bookmarked pages, or by PDF annotations if you’re working on a PDF.

Second, a new cloud service has been added to the family: Google Drive. This is a free cloud service that will allow you to store and share your notes. When combined with auto-sync, it’s a great way to automatically backup your notes. And one more thing that really makes Google Drive great, you’ll get the added benefit of being able to import .ppt, .doc, and .xls files as PDFs into Notability.

Finally, we want to extend a very warm welcome to all new users as Notability has now been localized into 6 more languages: Willkommen, Bonjour, Benvenuto, Bienvenido, もしもし, 你好. We’ll be continuing to expand this growing list in coming releases.

Cheers,
Justin

Do more with less

July 13th, 2012

I find the more I use iPad and Notability, the more uses I find for them. I was out of town last week and received some insurance forms that needed to be filled out and sent back asap. Thankfully, rather than hunting for somewhere to print out these forms, I was able to import the PDFs into Notability, use text boxes to fill them out, as my handwriting is less than desirable, sign on the dotted line, and email them back: simple and a huge time saver.

We’d love to know how you use Notability, so drop us a line sometime and have a great weekend!

Cheers,
Justin

Notes in the Cloud – Notability 4.31

June 11th, 2012

In Notability 4.31 we are expanding our cloud services to include Box. You can now choose your preferred cloud storage location from Dropbox, Box, or your own WebDAV server.

Dropbox and Box are popular free cloud services that allow you to share, sync, and backup your files. Sync to a cloud service with Notability and your files are automatically stored safely in the cloud for you. Anytime you need a file, it’s easily accessible from any computer or device. By combining syncing with shared folders, sharing notes with friends, classmates, and coworkers is a breeze. And it’s always good to have a backup, just in case. If you aren’t using sync right now, we suggest you give it a try!

4.31 also includes numerous bug fixes and quality of life improvements, which we are very happy with. We are excited about the future of Notability, and we hope you are too! So, stay tuned…

Picture Perfect – 4.3 has shipped to Apple

April 12th, 2012

Well here we are, 4.3 has shipped!

Oh yeah, I love it. Period.

Just yesterday I had to sign a housing contract. I was at work and couldn’t break away, so I imported the PDF into Notability, and signed away. The absolute crispness and clarity of our retina ink continues to blow me away every time I use it. That said, there are some things my handwriting isn’t cut out for; mainly being legible.

In this contract I also had to fill out name, address, the whole deal. So, I added a text box, and quickly typed out all my information exactly where it needed to go. It’s awesome knowing that people will easily be able to read the vital information while my signature can remain a ridiculous scribble.

I love sharing information and ideas. With the addition of twitter, I can now send my creative ideas and doodles in one touch. I shared a picture I drew just last week for opening day because it was totally cool.

4.3 is awesome and I hope you enjoy it.

Cheers,
Justin
